Will Barry reveal he’s The Flash during the midseason premiere?

Flash season 4

The Flash season 4 episode 10 marks the midseason premiere of the show on The CW, and to go along with that it marks one of the most significant episodes we’ve ever seen for our title hero. For the vast majority of the series, we’ve seen him running around helping people in disguise. He’s done just about everything in his power in order to keep those close to him safe, and his secret identity is very much tied to that.

However, we are getting close to a period of time now in which Barry is at a crossroads, and for an understandable reason. At present, the character is staring plainly at a future that includes him behind bars for a crime he did not commit. He knows the stakes of this, and just how terrible it would be for him to not be The Flash anymore. There are people on the outside, like Joe West, who are so desperate in order to ensure his safety that he’s tampering with evidence in order to ensure that he gets out of this situation.

In the end, though, the entire fate of this case, (and the fate of Barry’s future) lies on one question: Will he reveal he’s The Flash? This is effectively his way to get out of this. If he shows everyone his powers and explains his situation, he will probably be able to become cleared in the death of Clifford DeVoe. Yet, the moment he does that is the moment in which his entire life changes. Iris immediately becomes a target, as does Joe and everyone else close to him. He no longer is able to go about an ordinary life.

This is what makes this January 16 episode, fittingly titled “The Trial of the Flash,” so interesting. At the center of this entire hour is a question pertaining to just how far Barry is willing to go in order to secure his freedom. He will be able to help more people if he’s out; yet, at the same time doing so potentially hurts those closest to him.

One other interesting question to ponder over at the moment is this: What happens in the event that Barry does get out and what happens with The Thinker? This is someone who’s obviously thought over every single scenario, so he has to have been able to think through the possibilities here.
