Outlander season 5: Three great times for Starz to announce renewal
Now that we’ve said that, we do think that a season 5 renewal is a lock. Ronald D. Moore and even Starz themselves have confirmed that there are renewal talks taking place; it’s all a matter of when the contracts get written up and the announcement is made. If it doesn’t happen, we’d consider it to be one of the most stunning cancellations in history. Networks don’t cancel their second-most-watched series four seasons in when there are multiple seasons left to go. They just don’t.
Below, we’ve singled out for you what are three perfect times in which Starz could go ahead and make the renewal for season 5 official.
1. This Sunday (January 7) – The Golden Globes are going to be taking place on NBC; regardless of whether or not Caitriona Balfe wins, wouldn’t this be a great time for an announcement? You could have Balfe even announce the news on the red carpet beforehand if you want to make the biggest splash possible.
2. Counterpart premiere (January 21) – The logic here is simple: Starz could hype up the premiere of the JK Simmons show by making it clear that there will be an Outlander announcement at some point before the show. That boosts Counterpart’s premiere ratings while also ensuring that the Outlander renewal news gets as much exposure as possible.
3. Valentine’s Day – Obviously, we’d love to see the show renewed long before we get around to this date, but with it being a celebration of love — what better symbol of love is there than Jamie and Claire Fraser? In terms of timely announcements, there are very few we’d consider to be better.
Is it possible that Starz could just announce the renewal via a press release? Sure, but we’re all for them making a big splash and finding a way to turn this announcement into a celebration.

yes, for a fifth season, and more. I love the books but the the TV series just a much. Sam and Cait are the perfect TV couple. Best acting I’ve seen in a TV series in a verra long time. I’m a Sassenach all the way, even though I am an American. Please no more Droughtlander!!!

It would be a travesty if they do not renew for Season 5. If Starz would make it easier to view more people would take advantage! It’s undeniable the best acting and show on TV.

Yes! Absolutely Yes!
Outlander is the best epic drama/love story I have ever viewed and I’ve been around since TV entered our homes. The quality of the writing, cinematography, music, costuming, etc. all brought together by the superb acting. This is most certainly a Five Star production.

As an American, I truly hope we get to see Season 5 and beyond. There are many exciting scenes that take place in the years leading up to the American Revolution. Diana’s research and use of historical figures in books 4 – 8 is wonderful. At a time when our country seems so divided, it would be fantastic for us to be reminded at what price our liberty was won. Diana is able to bring war down to the very human level as we saw with the Prestonpans and Culloden episodes. And Ron Moore and company know how to make a very compelling visual adaption of the source material.
