The Gifted episode 11: Esme makes her move

Gifted episode 2

The Gifted episode 11 certainly felt like an episode that was gearing up for a finale. It was intense, vibrant, and there were questions aplenty surrounding whether or not we would see the Strucker family stick around or head to Mexico. “Should I Stay or Should I Go” would’ve been the perfect addition to the soundtrack here (even though when we think of that song we can only think of Stranger Things now).

This was an episode that started off with some significant debates and ended with what we’d describe as complete and total chaos. The war on some of the mutants started to escalate, and that especially ended up being the case once we started to see the Purifiers enter the fray. Whatever plans the family had were quickly set aside thanks to those who were actively — and quickly — looking to distract them and others like them.

The biggest problem that the mutants had was that the Purifiers weren’t the only people out to get them; by the end of the episode, it was clear that almost everyone was. It’s a miracle that some of these characters (especially Wes) managed to survive when you consider everything that they were up against in this episode.

Probably the MVP of the entire episode, though, was Esme — mostly because we learned that the entire attack wasn’t actually wasn’t orchestrated by the Purifiers or anyone else. Instead, it was all a calculated plan in order for Esme to get some of her fellow mutants on board. It was a case of the old “make someone think war is nigh” to allow parties with differing opinions to unify. The decision was made by Andy to trust in Esme … and that could be a decision that blows up in his face later during the finale. The big mystery that remains is what Esme and her group really wants with the mutants in hiding … and why they’re better off siding with them.

Overall…

This was a very good episode of The Gifted that was, (at its core) all about finding the right people to trust and when that happens, knowing what to do from there. It’s a good episode for the Struckers in that they’re still alive, but that’s about it given that they are still not in Mexico and seem very much to be in harm’s way going forward.
