The Bachelor premiere: Who received First Impression Rose?
Throughout most of the Bachelor premiere the narrative surrounding Chelsea as the First Impression Rose recipient was pretty clear — she was the woman who got some time with Arie at the start of the night, but then started to feel more and more insecure as time went on and Arie Luyendyk Jr. started to get to know some of the other women who were there. This is the sort of thing that happens almost every season — by and large, we do think that the recipient of the First Impression Rose is someone the audience is meant to like on some level. Chelsea is that in theory — she’s a single mother from Maine who is getting into some of the same sort of work as Arie in real estate, and we feel like she is one of the contestants that we’re meant to relate to more than some of the others. Take, for example, the one who decided to get Arie to smell her armpit after arriving to the house. That woman had to have applied thinking that it was going to be Peter and just didn’t care anymore. We don’t think Chelsea is as bad as some online are making her out to be already.
So, congrats Chelsea! There is a precedent established at this point for First Impression Rose recipients to go pretty far. It’s a little bit different from The Bachelorette though, where the recipients there often do end up winning. We’ve had some pretty random recipients of the First Impression Rose over the years — Olivia Caridi had one, and Sean Lowe gave Tierra one before she even went into the house.
For now, we do at least think that Chelsea is going to be secure in the competition for at least the first few weeks.
