The Bachelor spotlight: Lauren Schleyer tweets for AT&T
We have a pretty good feeling that Lauren, if she lasts long enough, will be one of the internet’s favorite Bachelor contestants just because she seems to have a great sense of humor about the whole thing. Think Alexis Waters meets Catherine Giudici. She’s 31, so she’s old enough to both see the nonsense of the process while also understanding that there’s a chance at real love at the very end of it. (We love how she notes in her bio that her biggest athletic achievement is “participation trophies.”)
What helps Lauren is that if she needed any advice at all about how to be on The Bachelor before going on the season, she could get it just by turning her head in any direction. She’s from Dallas, a city completely populated with contestants who have been on the show. Just look at Rachel Lindsay, Jake Pavelka, Sean Lowe, or JoJo Fletcher — and those are just the leads who have hailed from the city over the past several years.
As for what hurts her, it’s probably the fact that she’s going to be pigeonholed as yet another Lauren on a show that is completely populated with them. There’s really so many Laurens that these women are going to have to spend the first night holding big signs above them saying “I really am different even though my name is similar.” Depth is not this show’s strong point.
Will Arie Luyendyk Jr. like her? – We see things going one of two ways with Arie and Lauren Schleyer. Either he will recognize her sense of humor right away and she’ll go fairly far, or she’ll try something that blows up in her face terribly; as a result of that, she goes home a lot earlier than she really should.
