Food Network

Looking for a new take on baking? Food Network’s Ridiculous Cakes isn’t for a baker who is faint of heart. It’s for the viewer who wants to have their cake and eat it too. The new series premieres on January 1, and tuning in might make you hungry, so you’ve been warned.

These aren’t your ordinary cakes. In fact, Ridiculous Cakes is beyond those intriguing cake making TV competitions offered up between professional bakers. This show is about baking cakes that look nothing like the traditional birthday offering. It fact it looks quite like an everyday item. And the final result is awe-inspiring.

Ridiculous Cakes will take you out of your comfort baking zone. Hosted by Alton Brown, the viewers are offered up a behind the scenes narrative of the process of cake making, except the results will serve up epic proportions that are hard to explain. Promising to share a final look at some of these baked goods on the show, most viewers will notice how they look nothing like regular cakes. Instead the baked goods are ridiculously impressive. You might find yourself staring at the creations for a long time and wonder why anyone would eat something so beautiful.

The show gives a look at how bakers decide, design and give life to a huge cakes and frankly, the process is ridiculously impressive. So what kind of cakes are we talking? Viewers will get to see the 500-pound replica of Earth. It’s good enough to study your geography, while you could still grab a fork and start eating your favorite country (unless security suggests you put the fork down).

Another highlight of the series will include a chandelier cake that hangs upside down. Put together for a special party, it’s an elaborate design that is exquisite and detailed. It’s hard to imagine without seeing it (one of the reasons to tune in), but it does show just how specialized a cake can become with a few lights and correct placement.

Viewers salivate watching Masterpiece Cake creations come alive

As much as a foodie as I am, I didn’t realize how over the top cakes can make (or break) a party. Giving this show a look will definitely define what creative geniuses bakers can be. Plus, that birthday cake you get for your birthday in 2018, well it will look simply like a sweet rectangle, making you dream of hiring one of these professional bakers. Who wouldn’t want a edible masterpiece to celebrate a special occasion?

Ridiculous Cakes premieres on Food Network on January 1, 2018. Check your listings for exact times in your area.
