The Fosters season 5 episode 10 video: Brandon and Grace’s future

The Fosters season 5 episode 10 is airing on Freeform come Tuesday, January 9, and as the sneak peek below reminds you, there’s a pretty significant reason to worry about Grace. She’s sick. More than that, her prognosis is not looking good. One of the most emotional moments of the entire first half of this season was Grace’s mother cluing Brandon in on the sad truth about her condition — she doesn’t know that he knows about it, and that could make matters all the more challenging between the two in the midseason premiere.

For a prime example of what some of the struggle ahead looks like, you don’t have to look any further than the sneak preview below. Here, you see Grace come back to bed after being sick overnight, trying to pass off what happened as though it’s no big deal. The unfortunate reality here remains that it is a big deal and there’s no real way he can speak up on this.

There is obviously a reason to worry about the couple’s future — we don’t think it has anything to do with Grace not telling him, since eventually he is going to figure it out on his own. From her vantage point, we imagine that much of it probably has to do with her interest in trying to have as normal a life as she possibly can. She doesn’t want to think about her illness and likely sees being with Brandon as an escape from it all. When it does get to the point that she needs to tell him about what’s going on, it will probably be where she can’t live much in the way of a normal life anymore.

We’re hopeful that somehow, Grace will find a way to get better; we’re just not all that optimistic given that Brandon and so many other main characters have encountered almost endless struggles. It doesn’t feel as though anything ever works out for them in quite the way that it should.
