Poldark in 2018: What are we hoping to get?
So what is CarterMatt hoping to get in 2018 when it comes to the series, both in terms of matters onscreen and matters related to it? We do come bearing a few suggestions.
1. A season 5 renewal – This seems like a no-brainer. Currently, signs points towards Poldark getting a fifth and presumably final season; while we could personally imagine the show going on beyond that, we don’t think that there’s much of a desire for the folks behind the scenes to extend the story beyond the source material. We’re not going to object to this.
2. Some more behind-the-scenes teases – We’d love to see more of how time has impacted many of these characters. The children are now older and there is a time jump coming. It’s not as enormous as the time jump that will come between seasons 4 and 5, but it is nonetheless still notable.
3. Obviously, a trailer – Hopefully, this is something that the fine folks at the BBC and Mammoth Screen will hand down in the spring, even if you’re forced to wait until the summer to see the show itself. Why not give us a small taste of the road forward for Ross? Isn’t this only going to help the ratings even more?
4. The show itself – Without being a reader or a watcher of the original series, we’re hoping for some moments of bittersweet beauty in season 4. We’ve come to understand that not everything within the world of Poldark is going to come up roses for the main characters, but it would certainly suit some of the characters to give us a few moments of hope here and there. For example, we’re hoping that we’re going to see Morwenna find a chance to move away from the terrible beast of a man that is Osbourne Whitworth. Beyond that, we’re also crossing our fingers that Demelza and Ross can figure things out and actually be a happy for a change. Also, can Ross get a big win on George? We probably won’t get all of these things, but two out of three wouldn’t be bad.
For some more Poldark fun…
