The X-Files season 11 episode 2: Glen Morgan writes, directs ‘This’

Is there more anticipation for The X-Files season 11 episode 2 than there is the premiere? As strange as that may be to say, all signs point to this actually being the case. The upcoming second episode of the season entitled “This” is being written and directed by Glen Morgan, one of the show’s greatest visionaries. He was responsible for one episode in season 10 in “Home Again,” and this is his contribution to the early part of season 11.

Of course, given that this is The X-Files and Fox likely knows what they’ve got in a Glen Morgan episode, there’s not all that much enthusiasm around spoiling what’s coming. For now, CarterMatt has (brief as it is) the full X-Files season 11 episode 2 synopsis:

“An old friend reaches out to Mulder and Scully in a seemingly impossible way, revealing a chilling secret in the all-new “This” episode of THE X-FILES airing Wednesday, Jan. 10 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.”

The following is the guest cast for “This” as currently construed: Dean Haglund as Richard ‘Ringo’ Langly, Barbara Hershey as Erika Price, Andrew Roshkov as Commander Al, Dejan Loyola as Agent Colquitt. Make of that whatever you will. The most important thing about “This” on paper is that it is connected to larger X-Files mythology and isn’t just a standalone constructed for a new era. Whether or not it is associated with “My Struggle III” (read more here), the first episode of the new batch of episodes, firmly remains to be seen. The X-Files is a show that needs to do something to please diehard fans, and bringing in Morgan and cultivating this story seems to be a part of that. It’s a chance to look at some old potentially loose ends and if not resolve them, at least add another dose of intrigue.

After such a long wait, The X-Files finally premieres on Fox next Wednesday. Rest assured that we will come bearing more insight every step of the way.
