NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 photo: Deeks gets ready for takeoff

NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 is airing arguably its most important episode of the season on Sunday, January 14, but the high stakes over the course of it are not going to stop some of the characters from bringing about some comedy along the way.

Take, for example, Deeks’ getup while seemingly waiting to get aboard a flight to Vietnam in order to rescue Hetty. Only Deeks would decide to strap in the neck pillow before actually getting on the flight! You can argue that the guy is really prepared for anything — or at least anything when it comes to his ability to fall asleep on a plane the moment he gets on board.

In defense of Marty here, maybe he doesn’t have a whole lot of room in his bag! Also, he probably needs his rest given that things are going to heat up the moment that he and the remainder of the team arrive in Vietnam. Hetty is currently captured there and has been there since the start of the season. Rescuing her is not going to be an easy task and it’s going to take a wide array of resources, let alone people on the ground to make it happen. This may also not be a storyline that can be tied together in a single episode — what may be frustrating about that to some people are the signs that after this episode, there’s going to be a lengthy hiatus that puts the show on hold until after the Oscars in March.

The biggest thing that any fan can hope for here is simply this: NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 is going to heat up, and many of your favorite characters are going to be coming together once more. We know that there have been some who’ve felt like the Hetty story should’ve been wrapped up before now (CarterMatt is one of them), but we’re pleased to see things going in this direction. Also, it’s nice to have some signature Deeks comedy even in the midst of all of the surrounding drama.
