Call the Midwife 2017 Christmas Special: Charlotte Ritchie teases story ahead
If there is one person who seemingly knows this better than anyone else, it’s Charlotte Ritchie. She is the woman responsible for bringing Barbara to life, and she was there to film many different different key moments.
Speaking on this subject further in an interview with Good Morning Britain, Ritchie passed along the following message as to what you can expect to see ahead:
“The Big Freeze of ’62, going into ’63, was unbelievable … And there is a dramatic moment … Basically the pipes freeze and we have to move to a new community centre and it slightly jeopardises the pantomime. But we also have guest characters coming back and we have some really moving storylines.”
The idea of some guest characters returning is actually what we enjoy about the Call the Midwife Christmas special the most. This is a series that sometimes does have a revolving-door effect when it comes to its cast members: There are so many of them that they can occasionally get a little bit lost in the shuffle. In bringing characters back here and there what you are offering up is a truer sense of the scope of the world and some of the people who are in it — Call the Midwife is a vast, wondrous place with a lot of big-hearted people trying to the best for others. It’s not always a place where happy endings are possible but it is certainly a place you would want to be.
