Victoria Christmas Special will not be all smooth sailing…
Speaking on the subject to What’s on TV, series writer Daisy Goodwin confirmed that in spite of some happier times coming up for Victoria and Albert, there are also going to be some trouble that befalls Jenna Coleman and Tom Hughes’ characters, as well. Her statement below makes the two sides of the coin abundantly clear:
“Victoria and Albert loved winter. When we filmed those scenes they made it look so cold that you found yourself shivering even though it was warm … But there is a life-threatening situation [that takes place].”
Who is at the center of this situation? We imagine that this is something that the special is going to make clear and we’re excited to dive more into that. There may be clues that can be found within the pages of history, but one of the challenges with Victoria, just like another historical Royal Family-based series in The Crown, is that there is not often a whole lot of history to go on. There are times where there aren’t records of what the Royals were doing on a given day and you have to do some speculating.
If anything, the Royal Family excels at controlling their own narrative and they’ve shown very well over time a supreme ability to do just that. In not recording some of the conflicts, they can avoid them coming down the road and casting anyone in a particular light.
The Victoria Christmas Special, danger and all, is coming in just over a week’s time on ITV. For viewers in PBS, you’ve gotta wait a while longer given that it’s not airing in America until after the entirety of season 2. That season starts up in January.
If you missed it…
