The X-Files season 11 video: Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny hand out teases
In the video that CarterMatt has for you below, you can see creator Chris Carter alongside series stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson discuss some of what’s coming up in the new season. Much of that, (based on what all parties are saying), seems to be about a return to the show’s original form. There will be more of the signature Mulder / Scully banter, and to go along with that some cases that are more along the lines of what you know and love from this series. You have Mulder’s view on the world versus Scully’s view on the world; while the two may have many an argument over time, what the two of them often discover over the course of their investigations is that the truth is often somewhere in the middle of their beliefs. It’s not always as “out there” as Mulder may believe, but it may be a little more suspicious than what Scully often wants to proclaim.
While there aren’t any particular details about these cases in the video below, the intention here is pretty clear: To make X-Files purists a little more comfortable after they felt that the tenth season was a little too much of a departure from the show they enjoyed for the first nine seasons. We don’t think that the problem so much was that the show was trying to be different; instead, it just didn’t have a lot of time to rediscover its own voice through just six episodes. It had to make up for lost time and set up a new story; it really didn’t have a lot of time to get comfortable. That is why, in retrospect, only doing six episodes was a mistake.
When the show airs on January 3, CarterMatt will have a chance to render our own verdict as to whether or not the show works (we will have episode reviews here at the site!). We certainly hope so, given that it’s always possible that season 11 is the end for Mulder and Scully. You want to believe that the show would tie up many of its loose ends!
