The X-Files season 11 episode 1 spoilers: First ‘My Struggle III’ details

My Struggle III

The X-Files season 11 episode 1 is entitled “My Struggle III,” and we admit that we’re very much surprised by that. Why keep the “My Struggle” narrative going? While we don’t think that episode titles really mean all that much we’re not sure we’d give too many people memories of what transpired during the first two “My Struggle” episodes. The tenth season had high points, but we wouldn’t say that they were either of those episodes.

Anyhow, this is the title and we doubt it is changing. Show creator Chris Carter both wrote and directed this installment, and CarterMatt has some more details as to what’s coming in the synopsis below:

Picking up after the last event series’ cliffhanger, Mulder and Scully learn that they aren’t the only ones desperately searching for their long-lost son, William. The very fate of the world may depend on it in the all-new “My Struggle III” season premiere episode of THE X-FILES airing Wednesday, Jan. 3 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

If there is a twist in this synopsis, it’s that William is the target of many different people and not just Mulder and Scully. Most of this is information that you probably could’ve assumed from a good year and a half ago. Still, it’s exciting — William is the biggest loose end in the entire X-Files universe and we are absolutely interested in seeing just how his story plays out. If he’s found in the premiere, we imagine that you’re going to see him be a through-line in some of the stories that are coming on the other side.

No matter what happens, we hope that this is a worthy start to the season and an episode that remains everyone of The X-Files of old. The show needs to have that element of mystery, but also a mixture of fun and drama. We think there’s a good chance that it will bring that to the table given that during season 10, the show was trying to still find its bearings after so many years off of the air. Now, it has some of those bearings and understands more of what it is in the modern TV era.
