Will a Jean-Claude Van Johnson season 2 happen over at Amazon after today’s premiere? We certainly hope so since we are huge fans of his (thank you grandpa for introducing him to us!).
Yet, at the moment nothing is guaranteed — and it also seems as though Jean-Claude Van Damme himself wants it to be that way. This is a man who’s getting a chance to invigorate his career with something crazy, funny, and unique — he would like there to be more, but wants to know that a second season is wanted before committing to anything. Here is a small slice of what Van Damme had to say on the subject to Cinema Blend:
“By the way. It should not be a second season. Let the people decide. You know what I’m saying? Because then they can decide and I’ll know that I have to fight for the second season.”
It’s a rather refreshing approach these days to the whole “should [insert show here] be renewed?” debate, since this is him prioritizing demand over job security. Granted, we understand why most TV stars don’t tend to feel that way — they often want to be able to know that they are coming back to work for another batch of episodes, and understandably so. They don’t all have the luxury of a long and storied career like Van Damme does.
Still, we think that Jean-Claude Van Johnson is going to have no problem at all getting more episodes since we think the demand from viewers will be there. This is a show that is so mind-bendy and entertaining that it will get people talking. The only struggle we think it may have in the early going is getting viewers to find it — but that’s only because there are so many shows on the air at the moment and that leads to many options. We do think that there are going to be opportunities for more viewers to discover it down the line, especially over the holidays. This is a time, after all, when there are fewer programs on linear television and people may be migrating more over the streaming properties like Amazon and Netflix.
