Sophie Turner on Game of Thrones series finale reading
The explanation that Sophie Turner gives of the finale reading to The Hollywood Reporter really does seem pretty perfect:
“It was very, very bittersweet. The first day of the actors coming in and that kind of production starting, the day where we had the final read-through for the final script, it was really bittersweet. It was hard. At the end of the very last script, they read aloud, “End of Game of Thrones.” As soon as they read that out, pretty much everyone burst into tears. There was a standing ovation for [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss]. We were all clapping and cheering. It was amazing. It was the first time every single castmember had been there and sat through all of the scripts for season eight — obviously not castmembers who had died in the earlier seasons, but …”
The entire cast is obviously very aware of what Game of Thrones means to them. It’s of course allowed them all to have millions of fans all over the globe; beyond that, it’s also given them a number of close friends. Many of these actors have been a part of this show for a better part of a decade and for someone like Sophie, she’s grown up being a part of it. She’s now got prominent movie roles thanks to the show and while she may be ready to move forward to the next phase of her career, that doesn’t mean saying goodbye is easy. We’ve got a feeling that every single goodbye along the way is going to be emotional.
