Where is Hetty on NCIS: Los Angeles season 9? The mystery continues

Where is Hetty on NCIS: Los Angeles these days? In terms of physical location, we know the answer to that. Linda Hunt’s character is currently off in Vietnam, where she is experiencing her past coming back to haunt her in some rather-shocking ways.

The larger question many fans are wondering at present is this: Where is she in terms of the new episodes, and why aren’t we getting more of her beyond just isolated appearances? Hetty didn’t appear at all in Sunday night’s new episode — while Hunt may still be a series regular, it doesn’t quite feel that way when you actually count up the total screen time that she’s had this year. She’s popped up here and there and that’s about it, and it’s always been separate from the rest of the team and in her own world.

The one bit of good news we can offer up is that Hetty will be back — Hunt is still filming on the set and the producers are not drawing this storyline out forever. It’s certainly possible that next week’s new episode, the final one of the calendar year, could feature Hetty in some capacity. If not, we’d be shocked if the storyline is not addressed in a larger way in the new year. There will be a run of at least a couple NCIS: Los Angeles episodes most likely in January, unless CBS decides to pull a fast one and keep the show off the air until March. At some point in there we hope to see her back around the team more.

It may not be something you think about immediately when you see the Hetty storyline play out on the show, but if we are meant to think that we are seeing those scenes play out in real time, Hetty has been captured for many months now. That could mean a substantial amount of meaty storyline for this character as we get a sense of what she’s going through emotionally and, in the event she gets back home, how she recovers from this. Hopefully this is not a storyline that the producers skimp over.
