NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 episode 10 review: An assassin with a cause

NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 episode 10

Was NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 episode 10 an endless entertaining episode of the season? Absolutely so, but we’re not sure it will be remembered for anything beyond that.

The story, at its core, is not all that difficult to describe. A female assailant was in Los Angeles looking to get revenge on the death of a loved one. Her ultimate target? A Brazilian diplomat. Given that she was incredibly dangerous, the foundation of this story was largely just geared around finding a way to properly stop this person and ensure that nobody was hurt as a result of their actions.

The specific way in which her father died is one of the reasons why she was so driven — it happened while she was a teenager and by someone she was supposed to trust. The diplomat was corrupt and what he did was heartbreaking. While this woman was all sorts of dangerous, we did feel for her. Luckily, Kensi was able to stop her before any blood was shed at the end of the episode, recounting her own history and what happened with her father.

Was this the most action-packed conclusion to the episode? Not exactly, but we appreciate that not every single episode is going to end with an epic shootout. It adds a little more humanity to the proceedings. The diplomat was also brought in after a showdown involving Mosley (who is showing herself to be a master manipulator) and also Sam.

CarterMatt Verdict

As we said NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 episode 10 was entertaining enough, but there really wasn’t a whole lot in terms of through-lines that connect this story to some others. This episode was good for the Daniela Ruah scenes, but it was jarring not having Deeks and Kensi around each other for most of the episode. Let’s just say that Deeks had some work to do of his own involving his mother and his new boyfriend’s art. This was amusing enough, mostly in that Deeks continues to find new ways to be incredibly freaked out.

Also, we’re still missing Hetty from the show. While we know Linda Hunt is still a regular, it certainly doesn’t feel like it at times. How long are we supposed to wait until we actually see this character back in action? Our hope is that at some point come early next year, we’ll find a way to reunite her with the rest of the team. Back when all of this started with her in Vietnam we assumed that it was going to be tied up at some point in November, not near the end of the first half of the season.
