Lucifer season 3 fall finale video: Does Marcus Pierce have a secret?
Is the Sinnerman working with someone on the outside, and is that person Pierce? Or, does Marcus have a deeper connection to our title antihero beyond what has been revealed to date? Both are interesting questions, but clearly Fox wants us to be thinking that there is some sort of Marcus secret judging by the closing seconds of the clip below. Lucifer confronts someone (seemingly Marcus) and says “I know who you really are.”
The evidence of Marcus having some sort of secret has been there effectively from the very beginning of the season, given that you don’t cast someone like Tom Welling on the show unless they have a role of great significance to the story. Welling was a big get at the time he was added and he’s since brought a lot of energy and excitement to the show.
As for whether or not we want Marcus to be evil or at least some sort of adversary to Lucifer, we really don’t. We certainly know that he could pull it off as an actor, but there’s something more unpredictable about him just being a good guy. It’s almost so expected that Marcus is evil / has some sort of terrible secret that it’s more interesting to see the character go the other way.
There’s a very good chance that this entire promo is just misdirect, and the intention from the jump here is to make us think one thing before throwing us down a completely different path. It wouldn’t be the first time that a promo did that. One way or another, though, the objective of this promo seems to be to get you really excited about some sort of big surprise coming in the fall finale — the show will probably drop it only to then leave you on a terrible cliffhanger until the second half of the season airs.
