Law & Order: SVU season 19: Brooke Shields on fall finale cliffhanger

Law & Order: SVU logoThe recent Law & Order: SVU season 19 fall finale concluded with quite a cliffhanger ending — with Brooke Shields at the center of it. Her character of Sheila was out shopping with her biological grandson Noah, hoping to find him the perfect winter jacket. The outing was meant to be all sorts of sweet and innocent, but ended up taking a turn for the tragic in the closing minutes. After all, Noah was kidnapped from the department store and the next part of the season is going to pick up with Benson and Sheila likely working together in order to find him … provided that Sheila is not involved in what happened.

(Do we think that Sheila has a part to play in all of this? Personally, we hope not — largely because we don’t really think that every single show under the sun needs to have some sort of twist where someone isn’t quite who they claim to be. SVU is more interesting if Sheila is just a woman trying to spend some time with her grandson. She’s certainly someone who has been through a lot and is worthy of a break.

In speaking to TheWrap on some of what the future could hold for both her character, Benson, and Noah, here is what Shields had to say:

“I think Sheila will definitely try to insert herself [into the investigation], because she really feels because she’s a blood relative of Noah that this is the right thing to do. She’s getting this second chance to do it right … Olivia is not someone who gives up in any way, and the fact that it’s her son, she will kill to find the person who’s responsible for it … God help that person when she discovers them.”

Our hope is that seeing Olivia and Sheila work together in order to find Noah could bring the two closer together and also establish more that, despite their differences, it’s okay for the two of them to let their guard down. There aren’t many friendships that are born out of situations like theirs, but it would be rather nice to see Benson has a friendship that is separate by and large from her job. It could prove to be helpful to some of her own development after nineteen seasons.

Unfortunately, you’re going to be waiting for a while to see SVU back on the air.
