Jessica Jones season 2: David Tennant’s return teased in new photo
The new photo below via Entertainment Weekly offers you up the first glimpse at the return of this infamous character, a man responsible for controlling Jessica, body and soul, for a horrible chunk of her life. He’s probably one of the most terrifying villains that has ever existed within the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, largely because he used his powers in such a traumatic, psychological way. He changed her to the point where she is no longer the person that she was previously. It’s one of the reasons why she drinks and why she acts the way that she does — it’s a means to try to suppress the pain.
So how is Tennant showing back up? The best explanation is that he’s still finding a way to haunt Jessica in her mind, serving almost as that terrible devil on her shoulder. Maybe the memories and the trauma are going to drive her into madness the more that the show goes on. While she may be enormously powerful, she’s stuck with the pain and the experiences that may render her at times powerful. It’s what makes her feel for her as a character, and also what makes her such compelling viewing — there are few other characters in the “superhero” mold who are so inherently flawed.
Signs point to Jessica Jones season 2 premiering at some point in 2018. All of the Marvel – Netflix superhero shows seem to be making some sort of progress towards the future. With Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, they seem to be the two closest to the end. Meanwhile, Iron Fist is in the process of casting and we know that Wilson Fisk is going to be returning as a big part of Daredevil season 3. These shows are all following up on The Defenders, which aired earlier in the year, and to a certain extent the first season of The Punisher.
