According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, Drameh is departing the series after playing the role of Jefferson “Jax” Jackson since before the series even began on The Flash. Given the departure of Victor Garber as Martin Stein, the move does make a certain degree of sense — yet, we did think that the show was going to find a way to keep him, including finding some way for Jax to become Firestorm by himself as opposed to him fusing with another person.
There are still hopes that Drameh could appear on the series down the line, and the loss of his series-regular status doesn’t change that. Without Firestorm Legends of Tomorrow is losing arguably one of its most-notable comic-book characters and also probably one of its most expensive to bring to life.
So where does the show go from here? In the closing minutes of the midseason finale John Constantine turned up — we knew Matt Ryan would be bringing his character to the show, something that has been in demand for a rather long time. However, there’s been no plan for this to be a permanent gig for the character. The plan for now seems to be to just use him for a spell and maybe there’ll be another addition to the show down the line. We know that there are some out there hoping to see Wally West come over from The Flash — personally, we’re also curious to see if Ralph Dibny ends up coming over given that his powers are so strange that he’d fit right in on that show.
In general, the revolving door with this show as of late is indicative of just what this show is — an adventure with a near-constant rotating cast. Just think back to Hawkman and Hawkgirl in the first season or the Justice Society of America in season 2. Right now Zari is one of the new additions — while she’s been great so far we don’t want to get too attached to anyone since we know that this cast is ever changing.
