When is the Call the Midwife Christmas Special airing on BBC One?
Today, the show’s official Twitter account confirmed that the special will be airing at 7:40 p.m. (UK time) on BBC One, one of the premier timeslots that a show can have on this day. Christmas may be a veritable wasteland for television in the United States, but in Britain it is a tradition to have a big dinner, then sit down and watch some of your favorite shows with your friends and loved ones. Call the Midwife is the perfect series for the holiday sentiment in that it’s emotional, it’s optimistic, it’s bittersweet when it needs to be, and it gives you a little bit of faith in the human race. Is it the cheeriest way to spend the holidays? Probably not, but sometimes you need a reminder as to what Christmas is all about.
The Call the Midwife Christmas Special often bridges the gap between seasons — there will be echoes within this special of the most-recent batch of episodes to air earlier this year, just as there will be suggestions of the story to come in the new year. New episodes resume on BBC in early 2018 and will begin airing in the US later in the spring. If you’re not watching Call the Midwife right now, you’re missing a show that is simultaneously heartwarming and heartbreaking and a real test of the human condition. It also just so happens to be horribly underrated, so much so that we have nominated it for a CarterMatt Award this year in the category of Underrated Show of the Year.
