Psych: The Movie 2: How producers are setting up potential sequel
According to a report from TV Guide, the first movie is going to end in a way that almost-perfectly sets up a sequel coming in the future — one that could feature a prominent guest star who turns up in the final couple of minutes of the first movie airing Thursday night. As executive producer Steve Franks tells the website, this guest star is really going to need to be a part of the second movie for the cliffhanger to pay off:
“It’s set up that he kind of needs to be … I hope we haven’t shot ourselves in the foot that way.”
Ever since the first movie was green-lit over at USA there were always hopes among the cast/crew to do more, and we absolutely do hope that there are enough nostalgic fans checking out the movie live on Thursday night in order to make it happen (CarterMatt will definitely be watching!). We certainly hope that it fares better than some of Nickelodeon’s attempts to revive some of our favorite childhood franchises — both the Legends of the Hidden Temple movie and Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie failed to make the live+same-day ratings impact that we really wanted. The difference here is that this is a show that was always meant for adults, and with that we don’t think that there’s going to be anyone out there who “aged out” of being able to enjoy the show. Plus, it only ended a few years ago as opposed to it being buried far in the past.
If there is another movie, we don’t expect to hear much more about it until 2018. Therefore, patience is a virtue here! We are grateful that we’re getting a chance to see a movie at all, and we’ll see what happens from there a little bit later on down the road. USA may want to see some DVR ratings before they make a final decision, especially since this movie is easily the sort of thing that people could choose to watch at their own leisure.

YES we want a second one. And a third one, and a fourth one! If they left the next one in a cliffhanger, then we NEED one.
