Thursday night. THURSDAY NIGHT. That’s how long you have to wait to see Psych: The Movie finally grace the small screen on USA. It’s been a long wait, especially for those of us who held onto even the smallest shred of hope that there would be more of this fantastic series from the moment the last “suck it” was bellowed out on the original series.
Now, it’s back and it’s coming in just a few days — and the latest promo is by and large all about some of the wide array of people you’re going to be seeing. You’ve got the return of such people as Jimmi Simpson, Ralph Macchio, and John Cena, and then you’ve also got Zachary Levi coming on board as the bad guy (the Thin White Duke) while Charlotte Flair is playing someone who could be his partner-in-crime.
Just in writing out all of these names you can see how they all perfectly fit the Psych mold — guest stars on the show often come from either classic franchises (see The Karate Kid), geek-culture hits (see Chuck), or the wrestling community. Psych has long held an association to the WWE, and series stars James Roday and Dule Hill have done promotional appearances at various events over the years.
This movie is a celebration of everything that you know and love about Psych, but also an evolution to where some of these characters are right now. It’s meant to maybe tie up a loose end or two from the series while also introduce some new ones. It’s probably not so much about deep series mythology, though — Psych is a show about fun and the primary purpose of the special is just that. It’s meant to make you smile, remind you of the golden days of TV, and also probably make you somewhat jealous that Gus can eat about 95% of the day and never gain any weight. The man has the greatest metabolism in the history of humankind.
Remember to watch Psych: The Movie live, tweet about it, and do everything that you can in order to ensure you get the word out. If the ratings are big on USA there’s a reasonably good chance that you’ll get to see a second movie down the road! Just for the sake of seeing Timothy Omundson there has to be more!
