Katee Sackhoff on The Flash season 4 return, Amunet Black’s accent (exclusive)

Katee Sackhoff

The Flash season 4 midseason finale is airing on The CW Tuesday night, and over the course of the hour you will see the return of Katee Sackhoff as Amunet Black. She is the person responsible for causing chaos in the life of Caitlin Snow / Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker) and in the midseason finale, we’re going to see Amunet take things to another level and threaten Caitlin like never before. Her medical expertise, (rather than her superpowers) should be the focal point of this story.

Through Amunet’s first appearance on the show, there were a number of different things that stood out about her — with her accent near the top of the list. For anyone who knows Sackhoff from Battlestar Galactica or Longmire, you may have been caught off guard the first time you heard it! It’s striking, fun, and it definitely gives Amunet a little bit of wickedness reminiscent of another Arrow-verse villain in Damien Darhk.

So how did Sackhoff come up with it? Speaking to CarterMatt last month (as a part of an interview for the final season of Longmire) she explained to us what the process was like for the accent’s creation:

“I did the accent for my manager and he was like ‘you know that’s not perfect,’ but I was like ‘let me explain who she is in my head.’ My goal was to take all of these accents and put them in one crazy person’s mind and allowing them to come out for whatever situation she’s in at that moment. It’s actually a little more difficult than going in and doing just one accent.

“This is a character who’s insane. She’s got little baby violins playing in her head at all moments. I sort of wanted her accent, and the way she carries herself, to be whimsical and larger-than-life, not based in reality. You’re playing a supervillain in a comic-book show and I wanted her to be so much fun to watch. I didn’t want anyone to be able to put their finger on who she was and what she was going to do next.”

Sackhoff added that she loves doing the accent and finds it hysterical — you’re going to see her back at it on Tuesday, but that’s far from her only appearance coming up this season. You should see her a number of times in the weeks and months to come.
