The Flash season 4 adds WWE wrestling icon Bill Goldberg — role speculation

Flash season 4

The Flash season 4 has brought on board a key player from the WWE — legendary wrestler Bill Goldberg is set to appear in two episodes.

Goldberg himself confirmed the news on Twitter that he is going to be a part of the CW series, although he didn’t exactly confirm his role. Goldberg is far from the first wrestler to appear across the Arrow-verse — former WWE wrestler Cody Rhodes has made a couple of appearances while Adam Copeland showed up during the season 2 premiere in the role of the meta-human Atom-Smasher.

With a guy like Goldberg, the obvious temptation is going to be to turn him into some sort of muscular, dangerous bad guy who nobody wants to mess with. It’s similar to when the show cast Danny Trejo earlier this year as Gypsy’s father Breacher. Yet, it’d be almost as much fun to see Goldberg in the role of an ultimate nice-guy, or someone who has a big heart hiding somewhere underneath a very tough and very rigid surface.

No matter what the role is, it’s probably going to be fun — it’s clear that someone within the Arrow-verse really loves pro wrestling, given that we keep seeing people with this background turn up. This crossover does make a little bit of sense given that both shows require a lot of physical strength and you also get to wear costumes. Wrestling basically is heroes vs. villains in a ring.

We anticipate (based on the timing of this announcement) that you’re going to meet Goldberg’s character a few episodes in when The Flash season 4 returns in the new year. There’s still plenty of time after the fact for some other new characters to surface; we’ll see in the end precisely who some of these people end up being.
