Black Mirror black-and-white episode teaser: How intense is this?

Black Mirror season 4

A Black Mirror black-and-white episode is coming at some point during season 4 (which is hopefully going to be soon!). With that, we imagine that there is going to be a lot of hype around it. This is a show that fancies itself on being really experimental and atmospheric, and with the upcoming episode “Metalhead” you are going to get a good sense of that.

This episode seems to be set in some sort of post-apocalyptic world that already gives us some Mad Max vibes, and you also have someone stylistically falling off a ladder (who knew such a thing could be so stylistic?). Maxine Peake is the leading lady at the forefront of the teaser, and it seems as though she’s getting set to embark on some sort of mission … one that she may not return from in one piece. The word “metalhead” is often used to describe someone who is a part of the heavy metal musical subculture, but just cannot place this to be the meaning that the show is going for here. There’s almost certainly going to be some other pull beyond this that will be revealed at a later date.

Ultimately, Black Mirror fans would settle for any date at this point. The wait for an official premiere date has been a long one, made even longer by all of the recent teasers we’ve been getting. It’s for that reason that we’re starting to think that a secret launch of season 4 is reasonably imminent — that way, Netflix gets to execute a plan that they had originally planned to execute with The Punisher. There are many reasons to be excited for this season — Charlie Booker had a hand in crafting every episode, and he managed to get such top-tier directors as David Slade and Jodie Foster on board for select episodes. No matter when these episodes premiere, they’ll probably be devoured by some in days and analyzed for many months beyond that.
