Supergirl season 3 midseason finale: Katie McGrath on Lena Luthor – Reign dynamic

It’s already been made clear that Monday’s Supergirl season 3 midseason finale is going to cause problems for Kara as she battles Reign. With that, what are you going to see when it comes to Lena Luthor? She’s in an interesting spot both in this midseason finale and probably also the remainder of the season. Samantha Arias is someone who’s become a close friend of hers over the past several months. She also is the current CEO of L Corp, which Lena did in order to focus much of her energy on CatCo for the time being. Not only is Reign’s arrival going to cause problems in terms of her destroying the city, both Lena’s company and her personal life are going to be torn up in their own way.

In speaking on this subject more to TVLine, Katie McGrath had the following to say:

“You see how close Kara, Sam and Lena are getting, I can’t imagine that it isn’t going to become difficult with Sam essentially being Supergirl’s arch-enemy and all three of us being friends … It’s got to come to a head somehow.”

By the end of the midseason finale we imagine that there will be some movement in terms of how Lena views Samantha … but by how much? A good bit of that will largely depend on whether or not it’s common knowledge that Samantha is Reign. There could be some suspicions, but we feel like her being such a good person in her ordinary life is going to make it harder for anyone to think she could be evil. It’s almost the complete reverse of Kara being Supergirl given that she intentionally tries to be relatively soft-spoken and awkward in real life to distract from her super alter-ego.

Remember that there’s no hurry to make every single Reign reveal happen in the midseason finale — we’ve yet to even make it to the halfway point of the season as a whole and things are likely going to get much worse before they get better. Reign is easily the most formidable villain that we’ve seen on the show to date — defeating her is going to take a team effort, and it’s also going to take some time.
