An epic Malec scene is coming on Shadowhunters season 3 — but when?
If so, we’re rather happy to have an answer for you below! In a new post on his Twitter, executive producer Todd Slavkin noted that the upcoming second episode of the third season is going to be big. How big? Think along the lines of the “Malec fandom will never be the same” by the end of it kind of big!
As for what this could mean, we’re crossing our fingers for some significant step forward in their relationship! We’re not asking that the two rush down the aisle and get married tomorrow, but they should be past the point of the will-they-or-won’t-they drama or breakups similar to what we had at the end of season 2. It does make some sense to also drop another big Malec development at the end of season 3 episode 2 for another reason: You want to start up the buildup right away for what could be coming! This puts the two characters in a different position than they were in for much of the second season, and if you are Matthew Daddario and Harry Shum Jr. that has to be exciting. They get to augment their characters and performances to fit a new set of circumstances and we know that these actors have a great deal of fun getting to explore all of these different dynamics.
Now, the unfortunate part of all this is waiting until spring rather than winter to get new episodes. While the first two seasons of Shadowhunters premiered in January, this time around the show’s being kept on ice for a little while longer. Maybe someone at Freeform just likes to torment us; the only other explanation that we can conjure up at the moment is simply that there are specific programming needs that need to be met. Regardless of when Shadowhunters premieres we expect a big rollout for it — and, in the process, that there are going to be some chances for Malec to shine throughout. Season 3 episode 2 should just be the tip of the iceberg for them.
