Caity Lotz on Victor Garber’s Legends of Tomorrow departure, state of filming

Caity Lotz

At this point, Victor Garber’s Legends of Tomorrow departure is still fairly fresh in the minds of many fans; for Caity Lotz and the cast, they’ve had some time to reflect. The crossover was filmed weeks ago, and even before that they had advance knowledge that Garber was going to be departing the show to head back to the stage.

Do they still miss him? It absolutely sounds like it! During an appearance this week at Heroes & Villains Fan Fest San Jose, Lotz made it clear that the entirety of the show’s cast does still miss Garber, though they are now filming the thirteenth episode of the season and have moved on far past when the Martin Stein character was written out. She also shared some amusing stories (see the video below) about filming some of his final scenes.

Throughout Garber’s run on both The Flash and also Legends of Tomorrow the casts had nothing but positive things to say about working with Garber, an acting veteran who they were extremely lucky to have in the first place. He brought to the show an incredible sense of dignity and gravitas, while still also being willing to mix things up and have a little bit of fun in the process. After all, we did get to see Stein don the Firestorm suit at least one time before the end of the show.

One thing that probably does also make the exit of Garber a little bit easier to digest is the fact that there are still plenty of ways to reuse the character in the future. For example, a younger version of Stein will be featured in the upcoming mid-season finale; beyond that, there could always be many chances to see the character return in flashbacks or on alternate Earths. We’ve come to learn very well over time that nobody within the Arrow-verse is really gone for good — that’s even true for someone like Tommy Merlyn, who was killed off on Arrow back before we even knew about The Flash, alternate Earths, or anything else being a thing within this universe.
