True Detective season 3: Is there path for Matthew McConaughey return?
While there may not be too much in the way of finer details revealed about the season so far, what we do know is this: True Detective season 3 is going to be set within the Ozarks, a region of Arkansas / Missouri that just so happens to not be too far from where the first season was set in Louisiana. To get to Fayetteville from Shreveport is around a five-hour drive, and it’s therefore possible that Rust could have met up with some of the characters in the new True Detective season at some point. Maybe they worked with him on a case in the past.
Or, there is another intriguing possibility — having Rust brought in during the show’s present in order to take part in the ongoing investigation. There isn’t that much known about the nature of the True Detective season 3 crime yet, and someone with Rust’s level of expertise may prove to be very much valuable. He may not be the easiest man to work with but at a certain point, you just want results. He’s the right guy for that.
Could you make a case for Woody Harrelson to also appear as Martin Hart? You certainly could, especially since at face value he’s the most amicable of the two cops and he’s the person who may have been called on more over the years that their investigation was underway in Louisiana. Either way, CarterMatt would love to see a cameo from one of the two actors provided that there is an interesting way to make it work from a storytelling perspective — we don’t want to see a cameo just for the sake of doing so and generating unnecessary headlines.
True Detective season 3 is still far away from a release at HBO. For now, it appears that the earliest the show would return to the air is 2019.
