The best SNL sketches for November 2017 — Pete Davidson, the DNC, and more

best SNL sketchesWhat were some of the best SNL sketches for the month of November 2017? While we’d say that this month’s shows started off on a shaky note with Larry David they got better from there. As a matter of fact, the Chance the Rapper show may have been consistently the funniest of the season. It’s no surprise that CarterMatt’s two favorite sketches from the month just so happen to be from that episode.

(Just a reminder — there is no new episode of Saturday Night Live this weekend. Use the time to recharge a little bit and prepare for some more shows coming up in December!)

Third Place – “Message from the DNC.” It’s sketches like this that make us wonder why SNL doesn’t choose to go all-in on mocking liberals more often than they do. If you’re able to make fun of yourselves it just gives you a chance to have even more comedic clout, and SNL has shown on numerous occasions now that they are very good at making fun of themselves.

The premise of the sketch (that the DNC is overconfident after winning just a couple of elections) was very funny, but the same can be said for the individual jokes. Also, you had a great, (but brief) cameo from Jason Sudeikis in here as Joe Biden to go along with Larry David coming back as Bernie Sanders, and being a little bit meta about his polarizing monologue from the week before.

2. Come Back, Barack – Maybe in terms of pure comedy this wasn’t the funniest sketch we’ve seen this season, but Chance, Kenan Thompson, and new cast member Chris Redd completely delivered the authenticity in a Boyz II Men spoof all about Barack Obama’s Presidency. Few SNL sketchers are smart enough to be both politically poignant while taking on an entire genre of music at the same time. This did both.

1. Pete Davidson talks Staten Island – This may be the funniest Weekend Update segment that Davidson has ever done, and it by far is the sketch of the month. Making fun of Staten Island isn’t exactly new comedic ground, but Pete’s take on it was brilliant to go along with some of his banter with Colin Jost, who apparently is the favorite person of many people in the borough.
