NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 episode 11: The latest Christmas episode
Through much of season 9 to date we’ve seen the character struggle over losing his wife Michelle, and the way that the writers have depicted that feels pretty realistic. Grief is not the sort of thing that hits you all at once — it comes in waves and you often just have to do everything that you can in order to weather the storm when it hits and get the support you need. Sam does have his family, but there’s a big hole in his heart and this is going to be made all the more apparent during the holiday season. This is the time everyone is used to having loved ones around and enjoying established traditions that you like to share with them. For Sam, it’ll be an adjustment doing these without Michelle and he’ll need that support more than ever. Of course, working for NCIS doesn’t offer you a whole lot when it comes to time to relax and unwind. He and the team are going to have to deal with another crisis in the process of trying to ring in the holidays.

“All Is Bright” – The team investigates a ransomware attack that takes out the entire power grid for west L.A. and paralyzes the city. Also, as the first holiday season since the death of Sam’s wife approaches, he struggles to find the best way for his family to celebrate, on NCIS: LOS ANGELES, Sunday, Dec. 17 (9:30-10:30 PM, ET/9:00-10:00 PM, PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Following this episode, signs point to NCIS: Los Angeles taking a hiatus until the new year — CBS does not announce winter/fall finale dates in advance, but it’s tradition for many of their scripted dramas to cap off the year with holiday-themed installments.
Beyond the Sam story, hopefully this episode gives us a few happy moments to correspond with the sad. For example, this is Kensi and Deeks’ first holiday season as an engaged couple!
