Law & Order: SVU season 19 episode 7 is set to air on NBC on November 29, and just about every sign suggests it will be one of the best episodes of Mariska Hargitay’s career.

The sneak peek below gives you a pretty good sense as to why, as Benson does everything in her power to get through to rape victim Laurel, who has valuable information that Benson is trying to get out of her. As Olivia says, she’s been doing this job for a long time; therefore, she does know what to do and what not to know in a wide array of different situations. She utilizes some of her familiar techniques in order to get through to Laurel, including trying to sympathize with her plight and understand how she’s feeling. She’s angry and full of rage over what happened, but Benson needs to figure out a way to subdue that. Otherwise, it’s going to be hard for her to be able to know the truth.

What is so surprising about this interrogation with Laurel is that she decides to turn things around on Benson rather than listen to reason in the traditional sense. She challenges Benson on what she really knows about any of this and she refuses to really pay attention to much of what she has to say. All of this should set the stage for some more surprises as the case goes along — based on the promotional material that is out there, this episode is going to feature Olivia sharing a secret from her past that could be a jaw-dropper even to some devoted viewers. Much of that could come about in the midst of this said back-and-forth between Benson and Laurel. This is not your typical episode of the show; it’s something that appears cut-and-dry that eventually unwinds and becomes something so much more.

We think that SVU is really trying to lure you into a false sense of security with this episode, and you even get a chance to see that within the name of the hour itself — “Something Happened.” Yes, it is very much clear that this is the case both this week and every other. This is more about determining both what that something is and if anything else significant happens after the fact.
