Call the Midwife Christmas Special 2017 sneak peek: A winter wonderland

Call the Midwife season 7

While last year the Call the Midwife Christmas Special chose to utilize a warmer color palette by bringing its main characters to South Africa, this year is different. As a matter of fact, the 2017 could end up being the polar opposite!

On Friday the BBC series unveiled a first look at the upcoming special (via the annual Children in Need benefit event), and it features many different characters doing their part to withstand some wintry conditions. It’s one of the coldest winters in the history of Poplar, but somehow that is not dampening the spirits of many of the women at Nonnatus House. There is still joy, there is still hope, and life does seem to be moving forward. One of the bigger reveals in this preview is that the relationship between Trixie and the dentist Christopher from last season is still going strong. This is a relationship that we’d love to see continue, especially since it gives Trixie something to do outside of her profession.

Judging from what little we see in this preview, one aspect of Trixie’s new life is being around a certain sector of society. As it is described here, she has to figure out how to handle being in a world where you are judged so much based on your appearance and what you are wearing. That can prove challenging sometimes (just like it can in modern times too!).

This Christmas Special, (like so many that have aired before it on the BBC) is going to serve as a rather fantastic bridge between the end of this past season of the show and the start of a new one. Typically, there is a few weeks between the Christmas Special and the start of the new season; there is no official premiere date confirmed as of yet, but hopefully we will have a chance to find out more by the time the Christmas special airs. The network is somewhat notorious for making viewers wait as long as humanly possible for additional details.
