This Is Us season 2 episode 8 made Mandy Moore cry — so be prepared

Mandy Moore

Just in case you needed another reason to watch This Is Us season 2 episode 8, here it is. Series star Mandy Moore is promising that this episode (when it airs) could be one of the most powerful ones yet.

In an Instagram story this week, Moore shared a caption of herself saying that she cried while watching Tuesday night’s episode “Number One” — which probably means that terrible things are going to happen to the character of Kevin. When you think for a moment about where the story is, it’s probably not all that hard to figure out why. This is a man who is currently in the throes of battling addiction, and without having Sophie in his life (provided the latest breakup sticks) he could be on the verge of an emotional breakdown.

Could Rebecca (or someone else) lend a helping hand in order to ensure that Kevin is okay? He’s going to need someone who can get through to him and recognize what is really going on with him. The problem that he’s running into is that he’s heading off to a place now (his old high school) where nobody’s going to really notice what’s going on. He’s being honored there and many people may be so in awe of him and the life that he’s had as an actor that they may not stop and realize what’s actually going on.

Odds are, whatever makes you choked up in this episode is probably going to revolve around the Kevin character in one form or another. Maybe it will come in the present with his life falling apart, or maybe it will come in the past where it looks like some of his football years will be explored. You’re going to get a chance to explore a part of his life that we haven’t seen that much of through the first season and a half of the show.
