This Is Us season 2 episode 8 preview: Kevin heads back to high school
This episode is entitled “Number One,” and one of the focal points of this story is going to be Justin Hartley’s character getting a chance to return to a place where much should be revealed — high school. You would think that, (in theory) he would relish this opportunity — it’s a chance to go back to a place where he would be considered a hero, and also a place where he could impart all sorts of wisdom from his career and his life.
Before we move forward, let’s go ahead and share the official This Is Us season 2 episode 8 synopsis via NBC:
“Kevin goes back to his high school to accept an award. Jack and Rebecca get excited about their kids’ futures.”
The thing that CarterMatt is worried about at the moment is this: Kevin has some serious issues, including addiction and self-sabotage. There is a very real chance that he goes off the rails here and completely ruins his life. There’s nothing worse than doing something that causes your most devoted fans to turn on you. If he shows up there messed-up or apathetic to the students, it’d be almost akin to sending out an email to his fan club with a big picture of a middle finger in it.
As for the other stories…
You’re clearly going to get a sense as to why Kevin got to the place that he is as an actor — he had the support of his parents. While clearly the Pearson clan was not perfect, they did virtually everything within their power in order to ensure that their children had the best life they possibly could. In this episode, you’ll see some of that support play out. In turn, though, this may make what Kevin’s gone through in the present all the more soul-crushing.
One thing worth noting is that, per the promo below, this is going to be the first of three straight episodes that are individual spotlights on the Big Three. We’re starting here with Kevin.
