When The Walking Dead season 8 episode 4 airs on AMC this weekend, be prepared for some Melissa McBride awesomeness! There is a part of us that is very worried for Carol anytime she gets into a situation where she has to kill, largely because we’ve come to see over time just what this does to her psyche.
Ultimately, the struggle for us as a viewer is reconciling our excitement for seeing Carol the badass with the pain it seems to cause her. That’s not an easy thing to do, and Sunday’s new episode puts you firmly in that position.
At first, the sneak peek below is very still and quiet. Carol finds herself isolated, separate from the rest of the group and watching a number of Saviors. This is where she can debate making a move against them. It’s a tricky predicament she finds herself in. It’s better to be the aggressor here against the group rather than being found, but she has to be careful with it. As incredible as Carol is in the heat of battle, she’s also only one person. One of the things that the Saviors really embody is strength in numbers and there are so many members of this group that we haven’t even met yet. We’re always going to be worried about Carol just because if something happens to her it’d probably be one of the most painful deaths in the history of the show. We like to think that the character will be the last person standing … but that may just be a pipe dream.
In true AMC fashion, this sneak peek does end before things really start to get good and we start to get a sense as to what is actually coming up next — just expect Carol’s decision, one way or another, to have big ramifications. There are four more episodes beyond this one airing in the fall, and there’s potential for everything from more betrayals to character deaths within there.
