Suits season 7 finale, Gina Torres spin-off casts Mindy Project, Homeland actors

Gina Torres spin-off

The Suits season 7 finale will be more than just your standard episode of the show. This episode is meant to launch the potential Gina Torres spin-off series, and we’ve got some news on two of the new additions who are set to appear. If the spin-off is greenlit, they will be regulars and, depending on the story direction, turn up in almost every episode.

Per Deadline, check out the names and characters below.

Rebecca Rittenhouse – The Mindy Project actress, who we automatically associate these days with the mysterious Rittenhouse group from NBC’s Timeless (blame the last name), is going to be starring as an attorney by the name of Keri Allen. While the Suits spin-off is set to be more political in nature, clearly they are not shying away from presenting lawyers in some context.

Keri is set to be the “unofficial right hand” of the Mayor of Chicago, and that brings us to the next casting…

Morgan Spector – The Homeland actor is playing Bobby Golec, the Mayor in charge of the Windy City. Clearly, this show is not settling for small-scale politics; they are going right to City Hall. Chicago is the third-biggest city in the United States and there is a ton of content that this show can explore as a result of that.

For the record, we like to think that Morgan Spector is a relative of Harvey Specter. Sure, they’re spelled differently and one is fictional … don’t spoil our fun.

Given that we’re meeting the Chicago Mayor and Jessica now lives in the city, it’s fair to guess that the finale of Suits season 7 will relocate there rather than staying put in New York. It’s already been reported at CarterMatt that Abigail Spencer is set to return in at least one episode as Dana Scott a.k.a. Scottie, one of our favorite recurring characters. More announcements should be forthcoming.

What to be worried about

It is possible that the season 7 finale will be the end of the story for Meghan Markle as Rachel Zane? For obvious Royal Family reasons it could be difficult to have her on the show, and the contracts of many of the show’s leads are up at the end of the season.

What do you think about these additions?
