Wentworth Miller leaving The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow for good
In a new post on Instagram, Miller confirmed that the episodes he is currently filming as Leonard Snart / Captain Cold will be his last ones for the DC – CW universe. This is sad given that Miller’s an incredible actor and has really found a way to grow this character into something special. Unfortunately, you could see the writing on the wall here for a while.
After all, there’s one important thing to remember when you are talking about Leonard Snart on any of these shows — he’s dead. He was killed at the end of the first season of Legends of Tomorrow in order to save the lives of the rest of the team. (The Captain Canary ‘ship, alas, was dead as soon as it really began.) This was one of two exceptional scenes for Miller during that season, with the other being when he almost killed Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell) when he was getting too unpredictable for the rest of the team to control. The irony here is that Rory has since reformed and is now a valuable member of the team. He remained a regular on Legends of Tomorrow even after Miller exited. He was a regular last year across the entire CW universe, a bit of an unusual arrangement that we saw for him and another actor in John Barrowman who may also be done with these shows. Barrowman did say recently that he was open to returning, but there are no plans at the moment to have Malcolm Merlyn back — for the record, the way that Arrow handled his exit is actually pretty disrespectful to that character.
It never struck us that Miller would be the sort of person who would stick around this universe forever — he’s always been a unique guy who followed the beat of his own drum and never did things because of what other people wanted. Remember, Miller basically left the TV industry for years after Prison Break and decided to make his big return on The Flash as this character. We’re sure that there are many cool things that he could be doing in the future and as soon as we learn a little bit more about those, we’ll be sure to let you know.
