Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe on Outlander season 4; Golden Globes event

There are a couple of Outlander stories CarterMatt has to pass along this Monday morning, but let’s start with a little bit of season 4 talk!

This weekend both Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe make an appearance at the BAFTA Scotland Awards, and while there they joked a little bit about the weather in the area (this just in: Scotland’s always cold) before going into a little bit of season 4 discussion. While there isn’t anything too in-depth shared here, they did discuss transforming Scotland into America — one of the biggest production challenges this year. It’s not altogether easy using one country in order to replicate another, but we’ve got a feeling that the Outlander crew has figured out a way to do it. (We’ve already seen that they’re doing a lot of great work to replicate some of the forests!)

Also, there’s a “make Scotland great again” joke thrown in here — which we’re down for, even though everyone knows that Scotland is great already.

Anyhow, season 4 filming for Outlander is set to continue for many more months, and we’re hoping that it will be ready to premiere on Starz come the fall of 2018. There are no guarantees there, but we know that this is the hope for executive producer Ronald D. Moore.

We also know that this weekend Sam and Caitriona made an appearance at an HFPA event in London, which we’ve already noted is very important for the sake of building some bonds with some important people in this industry. These are the people behind the Golden Globes, and while we’ve joked here and there about these people being some of the most mysterious awards-show voters in entertainment, there is some validity to that. They’re a little bit difficult to predict. There are opportunities for great press that come through them, and of course we believe that attending these events can prove fruitful at the time in which Golden Globe nominations come out. It helps shows to be all the more memorable.

For the record, we’ve already felt as though Outlander is better positioned for Globe nominations this year than ever before, given that the show is airing right in the heart of voting and it will always be top of mind. Balfe and the show itself have been nominated in the past, but this could also be Sam’s year for a little bit of love. We of course would love to see someone win a Globe this year, but let’s start with hoping for a nomination. One thing at a time…
