The Bachelor – Arie Luyendyk Jr. poster keeps things simple
The poster below is the first official glimpse (via ABC) that we’ve seen of it, and it shows what is ultimately a pretty subdued, laid-back approach for the new season. It also seems to be playing up the fact that Arie hasn’t been a part of the show in ages, as evidenced by the slogan of “worth the wait” right above the show’s logo. Arie first was on The Bachelorette during Emily Maynard’s season of the show many years ago, and went all the way to the finale then. Since that time he’s been at the center of near-constant speculation as to whether or not he could become the lead of his own season. He’s been in discussions before, and some sources say that he was originally a backup choice with Peter Kraus of Rachel Lindsay’s season serving as the frontrunner. When Peter backed away from doing the season all of a sudden Arie was swept into the position of frontrunner.
One of the things that is interesting to us about the way that ABC is promoting this season is that they are choosing to not focus so much on Arie for his racing career, something that we felt was going to be a lock going into the promotion for this season of the show. Back in the olden days The Bachelor tended to milk their leads’ professions for almost every possible drop that they could. Remember all of the reminders that Chris Soules was a farmer or that Jake Pavelka was a pilot? CarterMatt couldn’t stop singing “On the Wings of Love” for months after Pavelka’s season (and we actually ended up picking it as our wedding song as a bit of a side note). We figure that either the show’s determined that professions really don’t matter all that much or that being a driver isn’t relatable enough to most viewers in the way that being a farmer is.
This season of The Bachelor is premiering in primetime on New Year’s Day. Clearly, the folks at ABC are wasting no time kicking off the crazy in the new year.
