Major Crimes season 6 premiere ratings lowest for series yet

Major Crimes season 6 premiere ratings

We were originally really excited to report on the Major Crimes season 6 premiere ratings, but unfortunately the news is not as good as CarterMatt was hoping for.

The latest numbers that have come in the Major Crimes premiere and we are sad to say that it generated just a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic (tied for its lowest rating ever) and then also a series-low 1.75 million viewers. It’s a major bummer for those out there hoping to see the show get a last-ditch season 7 revival elsewhere (like we were); not all hope is lost, but it feels very unlikely that the show will return.

We definitely don’t blame the fans for the lower ratings, mostly because of the fact that this is a show that 1) premiered on Halloween and 2) premiered opposite the World Series. We do firmly what TNT was thinking with this premiere date given that Halloween is not the night in which you want to launch new episodes of a show. There is just so much competition there in between other shows and then families out celebrating the holiday and/or stuffing their faces with candy.

Now, let’s turn to the World Series of it all. While TNT couldn’t have known for sure that baseball would be a factor in the show’s premiere, it was a clear possibility that it would be airing up against it. Or, they could have delayed the premiere a little bit knowing that this was going to happen. We can’t be overly bitter at TNT given that this is the network that gave us both The Closer and Major Crimes in the first place — not only that, but they let them both continue to the point where they each had more than 100 episodes. The thing we’re sad about is just that we would’ve liked to see Major Crimes leave of its own accord rather than being shown the door simply because it wasn’t meeting whatever sort of arbitrary standard the network set for it. Sure, creator James Duff has noted that this cancellation wasn’t so much about the ratings, but we do still wonder if the network would have made this move if it was getting season 4 ratings?

Let’s hope that there is an uptick for Major Crimes season 6 episode 2 — personally, we do think that the lack of a holiday or baseball competition will lead to some sort of movement in the right direction. We are aware that things could get worse and that most shows do have a tendency to fall a little bit after the premiere, but to call this an unusual situation would be an understatement.
