Blindspot premiere ratings low; Once Upon a Time even

Blindspot premiere ratings

CarterMatt did anticipate that the Blindspot premiere ratings were going to be down from season 2, and for good reason. The second season aired on Wednesdays (which is major prime-time), but this time around the show is airing on Fridays. There was a time when anything airing on Friday nights was the TV graveyard and where many low-rated shows turned to dust. However, the past few years have seen a transformation away from that … and now we are starting to wonder if we are navigating in that direction all over again based on some of the ratings numbers coming in.

After all, the figures for the Blindspot season 3 premiere are a little lower than we expected — a 0.7 in the 18-49 demographic, and that is in spite of CBS airing a Halloween Special over MacGyver in its typical time-slot. (We’re honestly worried that these two shows going head to head is going to be bad for both of them.) This is the lowest rating (in the demo) in the show’s history — it previously posted a 0.8 on a couple of occasions last season, but it premiered to a 1.5 before beginning a slow decline.

Will averaging a 0.7 for the entirety of the season be enough to get Blindspot a season 4? There may be hopes that it will happen for syndication reasons, but at this point we would consider it a toss-up. We’d like to see the show go up a tenth in the next couple of weeks; it’s certainly possible that there were some casual viewers of the show out there unaware of both the show’s move to Friday nights and also it’s premiere date.

As for Once Upon a Time…

We wish that we could say that things were looking a little more hopeful for the fairy-tale drama. Unfortunately, the return of Emilie de Ravin to the series did nothing to boost the ratings. Last night’s episode generated a 0.5 rating, equal to the week before. It also generated plenty of tears from the Rumbelle faithful based on the way in which the story came to a close.
