MacGyver season 2 episode 5 review: Halloween & the Bermuda Triangle

MacGyver season 2 episode 5

On MacGyver season 2 episode 5, we had a story themed around Halloween — and with that, one stuffed full of creepy moments. Given that we had a case tonight that was all about exploring the Bermuda Triangle, it certainly fit the bill of the right installment for October 31.

While in the region, we saw the likes of Mac, Riley, Bozer, Jack, and Cage all do their best to locate some people — namely, the son of the Vice President Wheeler carrying a dangerous package — following a plane crash there. It just so happens that there was also a mysterious prisoner located somewhere on board, as well. Some people in the team handled being present there a whole lot better than others. For example, Cage was pretty well-equipped for it given that she doesn’t seem to be afraid of much of anything. Meanwhile, Jack was downright terrified, not that this should shock anyone given that this is the sort of thing that would terrify him. He doesn’t like the night … or clowns.

Eventually, Mac was able to find Wheeler and learn some of what happened — the plane crashed because of their dangerous prisoner Harper Hayes, a one-time operative who seems almost bionic with the number of metal parts that she has in her. The way that the show shot some of its sequences tonight was pretty terrifying — once we learned about Harper we were waiting at around every corner for her to strike. Let’s just say that she wasn’t joking around at the time in which she actually showed up.

In general, this proved itself to be one of the deadlier episodes of MacGyver in a rather long time. we don’t know how else to describe it given that at one point Jack got shot, and at another point we saw Cage nearly drown to death. For Jack, it certainly looked like we were going to see the man altogether were it not for the powers of one thing … magnets, b***h! (Yep, had to get a Jesse Pinkman quote in there.) Mac managed to save his partner by building an electromagnet and using it to send Harper flying into a wall.

Ultimately, the team once again was successful: Wheeler was alive, the villain of the week was put away, and everyone in the end has a chance to move forward. Also, we definitely feel like the show is going to pair up MacGyver and Cage at some point. They were able to commence some of their Halloween celebrations not too long after the mission was over.

CarterMatt Verdict

This was easily the creepiest episode of the season, but also one of the more entertaining ones. You had some intensity in the Bermuda Triangle and then some fun moments with the team at the end. Apparently, nobody puts on a Halloween celebration quite like the Phoenix Foundation!
