Chicago PD season 5 episode 5 review: Atwater’s difficult decision
To make matters even worse, later on in the episode Atwater learned that Vanessa lied about not knowing who went after her. This led to Jordan trying to take it upon himself to track down who attacked her, and following that, Kevin stepped in so that he could protect his family. In the process, though, he started to realize that he forced Jordan to offer up intel last week rather than consulting with him first. He took responsibility for his actions, but it was in that sense too late.
It was also too late for Atwater to be able to keep his siblings in Chicago and feel good about it — at the end of the episode, he opted to send Jordan and Vanessa off to Texas, as much as it pained him.
Before moving on from Kevin we still can’t be complimentary enough to how great this story was for LaRoyce Hawkins, who killed it in just about every scene he was a part of. He promised big things were coming when we interviewed him at CarterMatt last week; tonight’s episode delivered.
The main case of the week
The harrowing case at the center of the episode was one that was especially horrible as Intelligence looked into a case where adopted children were sold online and relocated. It was trying, it was challenging, and it also really required the team to think smart given that this organization was set up in a way where they were not altogether easy to track.
Eventually Intelligence finally did find someone responsible … which led to Voight once more doing what Voight does. While he has shown some restraint here and there in the Interrogation room since the reform movement first came in, he came closer than ever to beating a guy’s face in tonight she he made it clear that people in prison would not tolerate someone who hurts and devastates children. The threat was enough for Hank to get the information that he needed and that was that.
Or … was it? Well, Hank continued his tour of anger onto Antonio, accusing him of being disloyal and working with Denny Woods against him. He and Hank may not always agree, but the last thing he happens to be is a rat.
CarterMatt Verdict
A gut-wrenching end for Atwater, and overall, many reminders that while Intelligence may operate with good intentions in mind, that doesn’t mean they are immune to consequences.

This was an excellent episode and I felt so sorry for Atwater. And I love the way Jason Beghe threatens people – he scares them to death and knows how to do it. I think PD is my favorite of the Chicago trilogy.
