Grey’s Anatomy firefighter spin-off adds Alberto Frezza
What’s the irony here? It is really so simple as the fact that Frezza is not even playing the role of a firefighter at all! According to a new report coming in right now via Deadline, the actor is going to be a regular on the show in the role of Ryan, who works as a police officer. We can’t be that surprised by this given that there is a close collaboration between the fire department and the police, but with that you have to wonder just how often he’d be over to the show’s firehouse. Would it be an every-episode thing, or would Ryan pop up periodically as the series ended up needing him?
Miguel Sandoval, Jay Hayden, Grey Damon, Okieriete Onaodowan, Danielle Savre, and Barrett Doss are some of the other actors on this show alongside Rosewood alum Jaina Lee Ortiz (who has been placed as one of the leads for months) and Grey’s Anatomy series regular Jason George. He will continue to appear as a major part of this current season until the firefighter spin-off lands. At that point, he would jump over and play more of a part on that show.
This show is not going to begin until at some point in the new year, and just as you would expect, it is going to be launched off of an episode of the flagship show. Some of the seeds have already been planted there, given that we have seen already George’s character of Dr. Ben Warren try his best in order to hide from Miranda that he is secretly undergoing training to make firefighting his profession of choice. It was set up even before that back during the recent season 13 finale, which is when he temporarily assumed the role in the midst of the massive hospital fire.
As for whether or not it will be a hit — especially when there is already another show on the air about firefighting — that’s something that we won’t know for a little while. It has to prove itself ultimately for a pair of different reasons. For one, it has the Grey’s Anatomy brand attached to it and those are some rather big shoes to fill. Meanwhile, it also has to match Chicago Fire and everything great that is going on with that show.
