Madam Secretary: Upcoming episode “Shutdown” set to bring new challenges

Shutdown

CBS has released the episode logline of the next all-new episode of Madam SecretaryTake a look below.

“Shutdown” – As the government shutdown shows no sign of progress, Secretary of State McCord must negotiate an agreement between the White House and its opposition led by Senator Morejon (José Zúñiga). Also, Elizabeth is having trouble finding a suitable replacement for the chief of staff position, on MADAM SECRETARY, Sunday, Oct. 29 (10:0011:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

The episode will pick up where last week’s episode ended. The government shutdown was a big loss of President Dalton and his team and will definitely bring some complications with it as the season continues. However, the trouble only will continue for Secretary Elizabeth McCord as she has to find a new Chief of Staff.

So who could take Nadine’s place at Chief of Staff for Elizabeth? Well she could choose to promote someone internally. For instance, she could make Jay Whitman, Elizabeth’s senior political advisor, her Chief of Staff. He’s knowledgeable and has worked closely with Nadine during many issues. In addition, Jay has always had leadership presence about him compared to the other members of Elizabeth’s staff and it feels like it would be a natural change.

The other option could be that a new person will be hired as Elizabeth’s Chief of Staff. For example, Grey’s Anatomy alum Sara Ramirez is set to join the team this season as Kat Sandoval, described as “a brilliant political strategist, legendary in D.C. for her talent and for abruptly dropping out of politics until Elizabeth manages to coax her back into the State Department.” She could very well be given the job as Chief of Staff. She certainly seems to have the skills and the mindset for the job and if she really is a DC legend, it would be a great political strategy. This could also be a great story in order to add some tension within the State Department. Now we aren’t saying to have anything major, however, having a little jealousy tension between the new staff member and the old ones would be interesting to watch.

The other challenge set to bring the conflict is Senator Morejon. The determined and arrogant senator seems to only care about making President Dalton suffer rather then think about the American people. We believe that this won’t be the last problem President Dalton and company has with the senator. He’s a good counterpart to the current administration and has them on their toes, which is a great concept because politics isn’t easy and shouldn’t ever be portrayed that way.

Overall, things are about to get very interesting on Madam Secretary in the aftermath of what just transpired Sunday.
