Victoria season 2 episode 9 (Christmas Special): First tease
So, why do it now? There are a number of different reasons for it, but the biggest one is simply a matter of wanting to catch a little bit of the holiday spirit. Prince Albert is said to have loved Christmas, and there is enough of a historical record of the Queen around Christmastime that it of course made sense for there to be some sort of special crafted all around the day. ITV has yet to release specifics regarding the story of the hour, but if you look below you can see one of the first photos behind the scenes. Is it a little bizarre to see someone in a t-shirt and a beanie standing before people in warm Victorian wear? Certainly, but that is a part of the TV magic here!
One of the other things that could prove interesting about Victoria season 2 episode 9 is simply a matter of some of the competition. After all, it appears as though you could end up seeing this special air relatively close to the same time as Doctor Who, and Jenna Coleman is rumored to also make an appearance over there. We doubt that the shows will air at the same exact time (Doctor Who often tends to be a little earlier on in Christmas Day), but if you love Coleman we could see you flipping around the channels rather quickly.
As for those of you wondering still about Victoria season 3, there is no 100% confirmation that this is happening as of yet. While we would 100% love to see it and believe that it will, the ball is in the court of ITV to analyze their ratings and make their decision. The awkwardness for Americans
If you live in the United States you better go ahead and prepare for having to watch this special far away from Christmas Day itself. This isn’t like Call the Midwife, which can have its special air on Christmas one day and then a couple of days later on PBS. You’re going to need to get through Victoria season 2 (premiering in the new year) in order for this special to make some sense.
